Spin fishing is one of the most sports-like methods of fishing. Every detail determines the success or failure, from the selection of equipment, the choice of the fishing ground, to the proper leading of the lure. Your task is to breathe life into the artificial bait. In addition, this technique is extremely popular because it provides contact with nature while maintaining physical activity. It is also a form of active recreation. Due to its popularity, spinning is constantly evolving. Its particular types require the use of specialized rods. Modern good quality spinning rods are technologically advanced structures which, when properly selected, are designed to make fishing even more enjoyable! By choosing the right spinning rod, we maximize our chances of catching an impressive pike, perch, zander or other predators!

Of course, modern spinning rods have many common features, but the basic way to distinguish them is by their purpose. It is determined by the length, casting weight, power, action and deflection. A different spinning rod will be used to catch river asp, a completely different one for trout, and still a different one for zander lurking in waters of a deep dam reservoir.

These types of rods are described by several parameters that define their use.
The first is, of course, the length, which ranges from 1.6 to almost 4 m. Generally, short rods (up to 2 m long) are used for fishing from a boat or on small and technically challenging rivers. For traditional bank fishing, longer rods are recommended – even 2.7 or 3 m. This length allows to obtain a satisfactory casting distance and maintain control over the lure. Rods longer than 3 m are mainly specialised designs for river and sea spinning. This parameter can be given in feet, where 7′ is 2.1 m, 8′ is 2.4 m and 9′ is approximately 2.7 m.
The second important parameter is the casting weight, i.e. the weight of the lure that the rod is designed to work within. This value is suggested by the manufacturer.
Optionally, producers provide their rods with information about the strength of a given product. This parameter is expressed in lbs (pounds). For illustrative purposes, 1 lbs = 0.45 kg. The second way of indicating the power of the rods is by using the UL (ultra-light), L (light), ML (medium-light), M (medium), MH (medium-heavy), H (heavy) markings.
Action and deflection are two important parameters that are very often mistakenly considered to be the same.
The first one defines the speed of the rod returning to its neutral state during, for example, the casting, and its responsiveness, i.e. the reaction time, both to your actions and the ones of the fish. Here we distinguish slow, medium, medium-fast, fast and super-fast rods.
The second parameter determines the way the rod deflects under various loads. Here we recognize tip, semi-parabolic and parabolic deflection.

Of particular interest are the glued-in tip spinning rods, which are equipped with a subtle glued-in tip made of full fibre. It is designed to show even the most delicate bites. These rods are very popular among perch and zander fishing enthusiasts, and they are mainly used in jigging. It is also a great solution for anglers who like to fish using the side strap, Carolina or Texas rig or drop-shot technique.

Ultra-light spinning rods – a very light variety of rods designed for fishing with the use of the smallest lures. Very often it is an approx. 1.80–2.40 meter in length glued-in tip spinning rod with a casting weight of up to 5–7 grams. In the case of fishing with the smallest lures, it is best to choose a rod with a casting weight of at least 0.5 grams. With the help of such an ultra-light spinning rod you can cast lures weighing 1 gram or less.

The UL rod will be an excellent choice if you want to catch perch, small trout, as well as roach, rudd and other whitefish with micro rubber lures or micro jigs.

Light spinning rods – their casting weight is a maximum of several grams, and their length is 2–3 m. This category consists of popular fishing rods for chub, ide and trout, but also stronger spinning rods for perch, as well as universal river models.

Medium spinning rods – the most popular group of rods. It includes universal pike rods with a casting weight of up to 30–40 g, long asp spinning rods with excellent casting properties, as well as specialized fast zander spinning rods with a tip action designed for jigging.

Heavy spinning rods – a group of rods with high power and a big casting weight. They are designed to ensure a good presentation of heavy lures such as rubber baits or wobblers. These are good spinning rods for pike, zander, catfish, sea trout and huchen.

Ultra-heavy spinning rods – a narrowly specialized category of rods for special tasks. It consists of a wide range of catfish and pike spinning rods designed to work with the heaviest artificial lures on the market, rubber baits or bigger wobblers.

Travelling anglers can choose from travel and telescopic spinning rods. You can easily pack them into a suitcase or backpack.
